The primary focus of NESAC (North Eastern Space Applications Centre) is to provide developmental support to the North Eastern Region (NER) of India using space science and technology. NESAC was established as a joint initiative of the Department of Space (DOS) and the North Eastern Council (NEC) to search and utilize the natural resources present in the region using remote sensing, provide the North-Eastern states access to satellite services, and promote research in space technology in the region by tying up with academic institutions in the region. The center presently focuses on remote sensing and geographic information systems, a satellite communication program, and space science research programs. NESACs activities are focused on the practical applications of space technology in agriculture and allied fields like silk farming, where it helps in monitoring and managing forest cover, wildlife habitats, and protected areas by utilizing satellite imagery and GIS technology.
