The Sprint Shootout is a new session that was introduced in the Formula 1 (F1) 2023 season as part of the new sprint race weekend format. It is a standalone qualifying session that takes place on Saturday before the sprint race, and its purpose is to determine the order of the grid for the sprint race. The Sprint Shootout follows the same three-session knockout format as usual qualifying, but each Q1, Q2, and Q3 segment has been shortened to create more jeopardy and potentially create a mixed-up grid order for the sprint. The key difference between Friday qualifying and the Saturday Sprint Shootout is the timings, with the latter being shorter. The starting grid for Sundays Grand Prix is determined in the qualifying session held on Friday, and the Sprint Shootout and the Sprint race do not impact Sundays Grand Prix.
