Tatkal booking is a facility provided by Indian Railways for passengers who have to undertake a train journey at short notice. Tatkal tickets can be booked one day in advance excluding the date of journey from the train originating station. The timings for Tatkal booking are as follows:

• AC Class (2A/3A/CC/EC/3E): 10:00 AM on the opening day, which is one day in advance of the date of journey.
• Non-AC Class (SL/FC/2S): 11:00 AM on the opening day, which is one day in advance of the date of journey.

It is important to note that the day of journey is defined as the day of chart preparation. Tatkal bookings are allowed in all classes except First AC. It is possible to book Tatkal tickets online on the IRCTC website or through the mobile app, or at a PRS counter at a railway station. It is recommended to log in to the IRCTC website 5-10 minutes before the Tatkal booking timing. It is also important to note that only 4 passengers can be booked per PNR for Tatkal tickets.
