As of the latest estimates, the total population of India is approximately 1.43 billion people. India is the worlds most populous country as of June 2023. The countrys population grew from 361 million in 1951 to almost 1.4 billion in 2022. According to the UNs World Population dashboard, Indias population now stands at slightly over 1.428 billion, edging past Chinas population of 1.425 billion people. Indias population is equivalent to 17.76% of the total world population. The country has doubled in size in just 40 years, and is expected to unseat China as the worlds most populated country in the next couple of decades.
