Chandrayaan-3s unique feature in comparison to other nations' lunar missions is that it is the only mission to have accomplished a "soft landing" on the Moon's south pole. The mission is aimed at the lunar south pole, which is a region with water ice, or frozen water, that could be a source of oxygen, fuel, and water. The Propulsion Module of Chandrayaan-3 has a payload called SHAPE, which is different from its predecessor, Chandrayaan-2. During the crucial stage of the mission, signals take about three seconds to travel between Earth and the Moon, so the entire lunar descent had to be fully autonomous.
