A UPI ID, or Unified Payment Interface ID, is a unique identifier used in the UPI system for facilitating digital transactions. It acts as an identification address for users to send and receive money seamlessly. A UPI ID is also known as a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) . It is typically in the format of yourname@bankname or mmyy@ybl, where "mmyy" can be your name, the first half of your email address, or even your mobile number, and "@ybl" is the initials of your bank.
To create a UPI ID, you can download a UPI payment application such as Google Pay or Paytm. Once you have added a bank account to the app, you can create a new UPI ID by following the apps instructions. You can create up to 4 UPI IDs on Google Pay for each bank account you add.
You can find your UPI ID on the app you used to create it. For example, on Google Pay, you can find your UPI ID by opening the app, tapping your photo, tapping Bank account, and selecting the bank account whose UPI ID you want to view.
UPI transactions using UPI IDs are extremely safe and secure as you’re not required to share confidential details like account number, credit card number, or debit card details in order to transfer money.
