In fantasy football, the waiver wire is a system used to manage the distribution of free agents (players not currently on a teams roster) among teams. The waiver process includes claiming a player, and then they can be added to your roster. The waiver wire priority or order is usually based on the draft order from the beginning of the NFL fantasy season. The waiver wire priority is a system that decides which fantasy owner receives a player if multiple owners have a claim on a player at the same time. The order is decided at the start of the season, and it can vary league to league, but some common ones are waivers where the order reverses weekly, or once you make a claim, you go to the bottom of the list. The waiver wire priority ranking determines the order in which teams can claim players. When multiple teams place a claim on the same player, the team with the highest waiver priority gets the player. After a successful claim, the team’s waiver priority drops to the bottom of the list. The waiver order during the season determines who has the first chance to claim a player on waivers. The waiver order can change depending on a variety of factors such as how well a members team is performing in the standings or how frequently a member has claimed from waivers. Some leagues have what’s called FAAB, which stands for free agent acquisition budget. In this type of league, the waiver wire works based on a budget given to each fantasy owner. You can then bid on players on the waiver wire with your budget during the waiver period. This type of claim system is more common in dynasty leagues but can be used in redraft leagues too.
