"What Is This Feeling?" is a song from the 2003 musical Wicked. It is sung between Elphaba, Galinda (later Glinda), and the students at Shiz University, expressing their loathing for each others contrasting personalities as newly-assigned roommates. The songs title and lyrics are meant to be an ironic parody on love songs, as phrases traditionally used for love songs are revealed to be expressing hate. The song is the first in the musical that Elphaba and Galinda sing together. The songwriters of the musical, Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, wrote different versions of the song before coming up with the final version. The song has been performed on various occasions, including on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
