The Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB) is a financial assistance program that supports low and middle-income families in the province of Ontario. It is a combined payment of three tax credits: the Ontario energy and property tax credit, the Northern Ontario energy credit, and the Ontario sales tax credit. The annual OTB entitlement is usually divided by 12 and the payments are issued on the 10th of each month. The 2023 OTB payments, which are based on the 2022 income tax and benefit return, will be issued monthly from July 2023 to June 2024. Families might receive up to $265, whereas a single person could only receive a maximum of $172.
To apply for the OTB, you need to fill out the applicable areas of Form ON‑BEN, Application for the 2023 Ontario Trillium Benefit and Ontario Senior Homeowners Property Tax Grant that apply. The CRA administers the program on behalf of Ontario. If your annual 2023 OTB entitlement is more than $360, you can choose to wait to get your entitlement in one payment at the end of the benefit year, in June 2024, instead of receiving monthly payments.
The next Trillium benefit installment is anticipated on October 10, November 10, and December 8, 2023. You have the option of receiving your OTB payment via direct deposit or check.
