Universal Flash Storage (UFS) is a flash storage specification designed for digital cameras, mobile phones, and consumer electronic devices. It was created to bring higher data transfer speed and increased efficiency to these devices. UFS implements a full-duplex serial LVDS interface that scales better to higher bandwidths than the 8-lane parallel and half-duplex interface of eMMCs. Unlike eMMC, Universal Flash Storage is based on the SCSI architectural model and supports SCSI Tagged Command Queuing. The standard is developed by, and available from, the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association. UFS is a type of non-volatile memory used in many mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. UFS is ideal for mobile, automotive, and computing systems that require low power consumption, high performance, and consistent reliability. UFS has one clear advantage over eMMC, and thats its full-duplex interface, which allows for read and write operations in parallel.
