User behavior analytics (UBA) or User and Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA) is the concept of analyzing the behavior of users, subjects, visitors, etc. for a specific purpose. UBA is the tracking, collecting, and assessing of user data and activities using monitoring systems. It allows cybersecurity tools to build a profile of each individuals normal activity by looking at patterns of human behavior and then highlighting deviations from that profile (or anomalies) that may indicate a potential compromise. UEBA extends the analysis to include entity activities that take place but that are not necessarily directly linked or tied to a users specific actions but that can still correlate to a vulnerability, reconnaissance, intrusion breach, or exploit occurrence. UEBA systems track more than just user activity. They track the activity of devices, applications, servers, and data. User behavior analytics solutions use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to analyze large datasets with the goal of identifying patterns that indicate security breaches. UBA is used to determine a baseline of normal activities specific to the organization and its individual users and to identify deviations from the norm. User behavior analytics is sometimes referred to as user and entity behavior analytics or UEBA.
