Veganism is a philosophy and way of living that seeks to exclude, as far as possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of and cruelty to animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose. Vegans avoid using animal-derived products such as meat, dairy, eggs, honey, leather, fur, silk, wool, and cosmetics tested on animals. Veganism is motivated by various reasons, including personal health, animal rights, environmentalism, and ethics. Ethical vegans believe that all creatures have a right to life and freedom and view all animals as conscious beings that wish to avoid pain and suffering. The Vegan Societys formal definition of veganism is "a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment". A well-planned vegan diet can be suitable for everyone and includes fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, whole grain products, nuts, seeds, and legumes.
