WB in camera stands for "white balance," which is a camera setting that adjusts how colors are rendered in an image. White balance is the process of removing unrealistic color casts, so that objects which appear white in person are rendered white in your photo. Essentially, white balance adjusts images to make white subjects look white in the final product. By default, most digital cameras are set to "Auto" or "Multi-P(Multi-Pattern) AUTO," which work for most types of photography. However, since white balance is a function that makes white objects appear white, it also ends up making adjustments to scenes that you dont want to look whiter. For example, the red hues of a beautiful sunset or the blue shades of a rainy day can be affected. This can rob the picture of its atmospheric quality. So, when you want to faithfully depict the light of the setting or create new light effects altogether, you can choose from several different white balance settings. Different cameras have different auto white balance capabilities, and some cameras also include a "Fluorescent H" setting, which is designed to work in newer daylight-calibrated fluorescents. If the camera is set to record JPG or TIF images, then the white balance value is fixed or "cooked into" the image, at whatever value the photographer sets at the time of capture. However, if the camera is set to record RAW image files, the white balance can be re-set in post-production without any negative or destructive effect whatsoever on the image quality.
