Wet cupping is a variation of cupping therapy, an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on the skin for a few minutes to create suction. During wet cupping, the therapist creates a mild suction by leaving a cup in place for about 3 minutes. Then, they remove the cup and use a small scalpel to make light, tiny cuts on the skin. The suction then draws out a small amount of blood. Wet cupping is believed by some to remove harmful substances and toxins from the body to promote healing. However, there is limited scientific evidence to support the effectiveness of cupping therapy, including wet cupping, for any medical condition.
