An engineering workshop is a dedicated facility or space where engineering activities such as fabrication, assembly, repair, and manufacturing take place. It is a laboratory that provides both the area and tools or machinery required for the manufacture or repair of manufactured goods. Engineering workshops are important for engineering students to develop and enhance relevant technical hand skills required by the technician working in various engineering industries and workshops. The basic need of an engineering workshop is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge of the manufacturing environment to all engineering students.

Engineering workshops typically have several sections, including a machine shop, carpentry shop, fitting shop, welding shop, sheet metal shop, and molding shop. The workshops are utilized for academic work and training of engineering undergraduates, and experiments as well as training sessions are conducted for the first, third, and final year undergraduates in the areas of workshop technology, production engineering, production technology, and automobile technology. In addition to these, the manufacture of necessary hardware for student projects is also carried out in the workshops. The other function of engineering workshops includes the manufacture of equipment for teaching and research, maintenance of machines and equipment, industrial training of undergraduates and NAITA trainees, industrial consultancy work, evaluation of craftsman and technical personnel, motor vehicle repair and servicing, and a variety of fabrication work for the faculty.
