Christian worship is the act of attributing reverent honor and homage to God. It is a lifestyle response to God, not just something done through music at church. Worship includes daily loving God according to His teachings found in Scripture as well as with heart and emotions focused on Him. The New Testament Greek word most often translated as "worship" is "proskuneo," which means "to fall down before" or "bow down before". Worship is a state of spirit, an attitude of the heart, and an inner valuing or treasuring of God above all things. It is a response of the heart to the knowledge of the mind when the mind is rightly understanding God and the heart is rightly valuing God.
Christian worship has two equally important parts: worshiping in spirit and in truth. Worshiping in the spirit has nothing to do with our physical posture. It has to do with our innermost being and requires being born again and having the Holy Spirit residing within us. The second part of true worship is worshiping in truth, which is a response to truth, and that which is truth is contained in the Word of God.
Christian worship takes the form of many different practices, lifestyles, and events. It is both individual and congregated. Worship can be expressed to God in many ways, including words, actions, the arts, and in service. Worship may include repentance of sins or other actions contrary to ones personal desires in an effort to give honor and glory to the Lord.
