Rudolph Isley, a founding member of the legendary R&B group The Isley Brothers, died on Wednesday, October 12, 2023, at the age of 84. The cause of death has not been disclosed. Rudolph Isley was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1939. He founded The Isley Brothers in the 50s with brothers OKelly, Ronald, and Vernon, although Vernon passed away a few years after their formation. The group had their first hit in 1959 with "Shout," which was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. Other songs made famous by The Isley Brothers include "Twist and Shout" and "This Old Heart of Mine (Is Weak For You)" along with "Its Your Thing," which earned them a Grammy for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group. Rudolph had not performed with the band since 1986 and left the music industry in 1989 to pursue a life in Christian ministry, but reunited with the group in 1992 when The Isley Brothers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Rudolph Isley is survived by his wife Elaine and his brothers Ernie and Ronald.
