Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009, at the age of 50 in Los Angeles, California. The official cause of his death was determined to be cardiac arrest caused by an overdose of the sedatives he regularly consumed. His personal physician, Conrad Murray, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Jacksons death for having inadvertently overdosed him with a powerful surgical anesthetic, propofol, which was being improperly used as a bedtime sleep agent. Murray had filed for bankruptcy in 2002 in California. Jacksons family believed that he was murdered, and his daughter Paris Jackson stated in 2017 that she was "absolutely" convinced that her father had been murdered. However, the verdict against Murray concluded that there was no malice involved, and it was mistakes and bad luck.
