The official language spoken in Venezuela is Spanish (Castilian), which is the mother tongue of the majority of Venezuelans and the native language of about 95% of the population. Spanish in Venezuela has unique features influenced by Caribbean and Central American Spanish. In addition to Spanish, Venezuela recognizes over 30 indigenous languages spoken by various communities as official within their regions. Venezuelan Sign Language is also used by the deaf community. Other languages such as Portuguese, Italian, and English are spoken by some groups but are not official languages.
