Nigeria is one of the most linguistically diverse countries in the world, with over 500 languages spoken. The official language of Nigeria is English, which is spoken by 60 million of the population. English is the main lingua franca of the country and is used in government, business, and education. The national anthem, constitution, and pledge are also written in English. However, English is spoken less frequently in rural areas and amongst people with lower education levels. Other major languages spoken in Nigeria include Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Fulfulde, Ibibio, Kanuri, and Tiv. In addition, Nigerian Sign Language, Hausa Sign Language, and Bura Sign Language are also used in Nigeria.
