"What Lies Beneath the Mask" is a special research task in Pokémon Go that focuses on Yamask and other ghost-type Pokémon. The task consists of four parts, each with its own set of objectives and rewards:
- Transfer 9 Pokémon - Reward: Duskull encounter
- Catch 40 Ghost-type Pokémon - Reward: Pikachu encounter
- Catch 13 different species of Ghost-type Pokémon - Reward: Galarian Yamask encounter
- Complete all previous tasks - Reward: Spiritomb encounter
The special research task is directly tied to the Yamask line, which is known as the Spirit Pokémon and is said to wander through ruins by night carrying a mask that was once its human face.
