Post-Impressionism is a genre of painting that rejected the naturalism of Impressionism, using color and form in more expressive manners. The movement developed from Impressionism, and artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec envisioned different precepts for the use of color, pattern, form, and line, deriving these new directions from the Impressionist example. • Indoor Painting: Post-Impressionists painted indoors or in studios, giving artists a more methodical and time-consuming approach.

• Abstract Form and Pattern: Despite the various individualized styles, most Post-Impressionists focused on abstract form and pattern in the application of paint to the surface of the canvas.

• Freedom in Expression: Post-Impressionism gave the artist more freedom in expression, opening ways to Modern Art.

Post-Impressionism paved the way for Neo-impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, and Abstract Expressionism.
