The liver produces bile, a fluid that helps with digestion by breaking down fats into fatty acids, which can be taken into the body by the digestive tract. Bile is then stored in the gallbladder. The cells of the liver produce about 800 to 1,000 milliliters of bile every day, which flows directly into the small intestine during a meal. Between meals, when theres no fat that needs to be digested, most of the bile flows into the gallbladder instead, where it is concentrated and stored. Therefore, the liver is the organ that produces bile.
