Nigeria is often called the "Giant of Africa" due to the vastness of its land, the diversity of its peoples and languages, its huge population (the largest in Africa), and its abundant natural resources. The country has a diverse geography, with climates ranging from arid to humid equatorial. The topography of Nigeria consists of plains in the north and south interrupted by plateaus and hills in the center of the country. The capital of Nigeria is Abuja, situated in the central part of the country, while Lagos is the countrys largest city and primary port.
