The limbic system of the brain controls emotions, and some key parts of it include the amygdala, hippocampus, limbic cortex, and hypothalamus. The amygdala helps coordinate responses to things in the environment, especially those that trigger an emotional response, and plays an important role in fear and anger. The hypothalamus is also involved in the fight-or-flight response and sends signals to the adrenal glands. The prefrontal cortex may also play a role in anger, particularly in regulating such emotions, and people with damage to this area of the brain may have difficulty controlling anger and aggression. Therefore, the amygdala and hypothalamus control anger, similar to the fear response.
