According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, as of June 30, 2021, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people represented 3.2% of the population, up from 2.8% in 2016 and 2.5% in 2011. The same source also states that as of June 30, 2021, there were 983,700 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, representing 3.8% of the total Australian population. Of these, 91.4% identified as Aboriginal, 4.2% identified as Torres Strait Islander, and 4.4% identified with both groups.
