According to multiple sources, the percentage of adults in the United States who are obese is around 41.9% to 42.4% . This means that nearly 2 out of 5 adults in the US have obesity. The prevalence of obesity has been increasing since the 1970s and has more than doubled in adults and children. Obesity rates are higher for Black and Hispanic women, for Hispanic men, in the South and Midwest, in nonmetropolitan counties, and tend to increase with age. Non-Hispanic Black adults have the highest age-adjusted prevalence of obesity, followed by Hispanic adults, non-Hispanic White adults, and non-Hispanic Asian adults. The percentage of men who are overweight is higher than the percentage of women who are overweight.
