It is difficult to determine what percentage of Jews are Zionists, as there is no clear definition of what it means to be a Zionist and opinions on Israel and its political leadership vary widely among Jewish Americans. However, some surveys have attempted to gauge Jewish Americans attitudes towards Israel and Zionism. For example, a 2013 Pew Research Center survey found that 69% of American Jews were somewhat or very emotionally attached to Israel, while 31% were not very or not at all attached. 87% of American Jews said that caring about Israel is either essential or at least important to what being Jewish means to them. Another survey conducted in 2020 by the American Jewish Committee found that 59% of American Jews reported that being connected to Israel was a very or somewhat important part of their Jewish identity. However, it is important to note that these surveys do not necessarily equate support for Israel with support for Zionism, as Zionism can mean different things to different people. Additionally, surveys may not capture the full range of opinions and attitudes among Jewish Americans towards Israel and Zionism.
