Four sitting presidents have been assassinated in the United States. They are:

• Abraham Lincoln (1865, by John Wilkes Booth)
• James A. Garfield (1881, by Charles J. Guiteau)
• William McKinley (1901, by Leon Czolgosz)
• John F. Kennedy (1963, by Lee Harvey Oswald)

In addition to these four, two other presidents have been injured in attempted assassinations: former president Theodore Roosevelt (1912, by John Flammang Schrank) and Ronald Reagan (1981, by John Hinckley Jr.) .

Its worth noting that there have been other assassination attempts on presidents that were unsuccessful. For example, Andrew Jackson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Gerald Ford were all targets of assassination attempts.
