The Triple Crown in American Thoroughbred horse racing consists of three races:
- Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, run over 1¼ miles (2.0 km) on dirt.
- Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland, run over 1 3/16 miles (1.9 km) on dirt.
- Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York, run over 1½ miles (2.4 km) on dirt.
These races are for three-year-old Thoroughbreds and are traditionally held in May and early June, with the Kentucky Derby first, followed by the Preakness Stakes, and concluding with the Belmont Stakes
. Winning all three races in the same year earns the horse the prestigious title of Triple Crown winner
