Baguio is a 1st class highly urbanized city in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Philippines. It is geographically located within Benguet, serving as the provincial capital from 1901 to 1916, but has since been administered independently from the province following its conversion into a chartered city. Baguio is the center of business, commerce, and education in northern Luzon, as well as the seat of government of the Cordillera Administrative Region. It is known as the "Summer Capital of the Philippines" because of its cooler climate compared to other parts of the country. Baguio is located 250 kilometers north of Manila, in the heart of the province of Benguet, and has a land area of 57.5 square kilometers. It is nestled within the Cordillera Central mountain range in northern Luzon, and is accessible from the lowlands via three national roads: Quirino Highway, Kennon Road, and Marcos Highway.
