The Israelites are primarily Jewish, as Judaism is the ethnic religion of the Jewish people. As of 2022, 73.6% of the Israeli population identifies as Jewish. However, there are also other religious groups in Israel, including Muslims (18.1%), Christians (1.9%), and Druze (1.6%). The remaining 4.8% includes other religions. Religion plays a central role in national and civil life in Israel, and almost all Israeli citizens are automatically registered as members of the states 14 official religious communities, which exercise control over several matters of personal status, especially marriage.
