Lebanon is the most religiously diverse country in the Middle East, comprising 18 recognized religious sects. The main religions in Lebanon are Islam and Christianity. Muslims compose around 60% of the population, most of which are of the Sunni or Shia branches. Christians make up around 32-40% of the population, including Maronite Catholic, Greek Orthodox, Melkite Catholic, Armenian Orthodox, Syrian Catholic, Armenian Catholic, Syrian Orthodox, Roman Catholic Chaldean, Assyrian, Copt, and Protestant. The Druze concern around 5% of the citizens in Lebanon.

It is important to note that outside of Lebanon, Lebanese people (including diaspora) are mostly Christians. Despite the sectarian violence during the countrys civil war from 1975 to 1990, today Lebanese Muslims and Christians generally have positive attitudes toward one another. The Lebanese constitution guarantees freedom of opinion and freedom of conscience, and it also grants all religions equal respect and treatment. The government requires the registration of religious groups, and the government does not discriminate in the process.
