The Duggar family practices an ultra-strict form of Christianity. They are members of the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP), a Christian organization founded by Bill Gothard in 1961. The IBLP is not technically a religion by itself, but rather a Christian-leaning organization. The Duggars are Independent Fundamentalist Baptists (IFB), which is a more strict and highly exclusive form of Christianity. They attend a “home church” to worship amongst a select group of others. The IBLP has a controversial status within the religious community and has been described as "cult-like". The Duggars grew up under a belief system called the IBLP, which had a core belief that children should always obey their parents. The Duggars specific beliefs and religion often arent explicitly mentioned on television. Some of the older Duggar children have broken off from their familys beliefs. Jinger Vuolo née Duggar recently released an entire memoir, Becoming Free Indeed, about breaking away from IBLP practices.
