There are several natural ways to repel ants without using toxic chemicals. Here are some of the most effective methods:

  1. Peppermint oil: Ants hate the smell of peppermint oil. You can use cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil and place them in areas where you usually see ants in the home. Replace the cotton balls weekly with freshly saturated cotton balls.

  2. Cayenne pepper or black pepper: Both cayenne and black pepper repel ants. Locate the source of the ant infestation problem, sprinkle some pepper around that area and if possible, create a wall that will stop the ants from accessing your household. An alternative solution is to mix some pepper with water and spray the resulting solution at the ants.

  3. Vinegar: Vinegar is a natural ant repellent. Mix equal parts of water and vinegar in a spray bottle and spray the solution on ant trails, around doors, windows, and cracks.

  4. Cinnamon: Cinnamon has a strong scent thats very potent to ants. By sprinkling a line around the infestation, this spice will deter ants rather than kill them.

  5. Citrus peels: Ants hate the smell of strong citrus fruits. Save your orange, lemon, and grapefruit peels and scatter them around entry points.

  6. Ant-repelling plants: Some herbs and other plants give off strong scents that overwhelm ants’ senses and keep them out of your garden. Here are a few plants that repel ants and aren’t too difficult to grow: garlic, lavender, mint, rosemary, thyme, and tansy.

Its important to note that while these methods can be effective, they may not work for all types of ants or infestations. If you have a severe ant problem, it may be necessary to call a professional exterminator.
