Elena Gilbert becomes a vampire in the season 4 episode "Growing Pains". In this episode, Elena comes to terms with her transformation and debates whether she wants to become one of the undead. Although Elena never wanted to be a vampire, her eventual transformation intrigued fans as they were curious as to what kind of storylines the writers would produce. Elena later takes the cure and becomes human again towards the end of the sixth season.
