California has not banned Skittles, but a new law has been passed that will restrict the use of four food additives, including Red Dye 3, brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, and propylparaben, which are commonly found in soda and candies. The law will not go into effect until 2027, and it does not impact Skittles sold in America, as they do not contain any of the four ingredients listed in the California Food Safety Act. The law aims to make American treats less "dangerous" to eat by requiring companies to make minor modifications to their recipes so that these products dont include dangerous and toxic chemicals. The law has been dubbed the "Skittles ban" because an earlier version of the bill targeted titanium dioxide, a coloring agent found in candies including Skittles and M&Ms, as well as some dairy products such as Kraft fat-free shredded cheddar cheese.
