Here are some ways to remove blood stains from clothes:
-
Soap and water: This is the best way to remove most blood stains, especially fresh ones. Simply soak the stained area in cold water and rub bar soap into the stain.
-
Hydrogen peroxide: Sponge the stain with hydrogen peroxide or dab some on the stain for dried blood stains. Be careful as hydrogen peroxide can bleach color out of clothes, so use it exclusively for light or white clothes.
-
Vinegar: Pour vinegar on the blood stain and let it soak for 10 minutes. Blot with a damp cloth and repeat as necessary. Test spot the fabric first to ensure the vinegar wont discolor or damage it.
-
Enzyme-containing laundry detergent: Apply a laundry pre-treater or rub in an enzyme-containing liquid laundry detergent. Machine wash the garment in warm water with a fabric-safe bleach.
-
Baking soda: Mix baking soda with water to make a paste and apply it to the stain. Let it sink in for half an hour. This is safe for dark clothing.
Remember to always check the care labels on your clothing before attempting to remove blood stains. Bleaching wool, silk, mohair, leather, spandex, and non-colorfast garments is never recommended.
