If your phone gets wet, its important to act quickly to prevent damage. Here are some steps you can take to save a wet phone:
-
Remove the phone from the liquid immediately and turn it off. The longer it stays in the liquid, the more liquid will seep into various inlets.
-
Remove the protective case and any other accessories, and if possible, open the back and remove the battery, SIM card, and microSD card (if you have one) .
-
Use a cloth or paper towel to dab your phone dry. Do not rub the phone, as doing so could accidentally push liquid into the phone’s more sensitive parts.
-
If the phone was completely submerged, you might try (very) gently vacuuming around the phone’s creases and openings to suck more water out.
-
Face the charging port down and tap it lightly with your hand to get some of that free water out of the ports. You can also take a vacuum hose to the ports, cupping the opening with your hand to make it more narrow.
-
Turn the device off and place it in an upright position to dry out, with the speakers facing downward. Doing so will encourage excess water to come out.
-
Do not use a blow-dryer or try placing the phone into an oven, microwave, clothes dryer, or any other device—the heat will damage your phone.
-
You could also try sucking out the water with your mouth. This is very gentle and allows you to be close enough to your phone to hear where the water is. Just dont breathe any spit back into the phone, as that will do more damage.
Remember, the most important thing you can do is to act quickly and turn off the phone as soon as possible to prevent short-circuiting. If youre unsure about what to do, its always best to seek professional help.
