Venus flytraps are carnivorous plants that can catch their own food, but they can also be fed live prey, such as flies, spiders, crickets, and slugs. Live mealworms or crickets purchased from a pet store are a great option. Bloodworms are also a nutritious food source for Venus flytraps and can be bought at most pet shops and aquariums. You can also feed your Venus flytrap dried blood worms, which are available as fish food. However, it is important to avoid feeding your Venus flytrap meat, including chicken, steak, sausage, or hot dogs, as it is not able to digest it. Additionally, you should not feed your plant prey during winter dormancy. It is recommended to feed your Venus flytrap one or two bugs per month. If you want to feed your Venus flytrap dried blood worms, you can add a few drops of water to some dried blood worms so that they get soft and meaty, then squeeze out before giving a blob about ⅓ of the size of the trap. Massage the trap gently so the plant thinks that the prey is alive and struggling.
