Yellow, one of the largest trucking companies in the United States, filed for bankruptcy in August 2023. The company had been struggling with slowing business, an unaffordable debt load, and a long-running battle with the Teamsters union, which represented 22,000 of its 30,000 employees, including its drivers and most of its dock workers. Yellow was a dominant player in the "less-than-truckload" segment that hauls cargo for multiple customers on a single truck. The company had an outstanding debt of about $1.5 billion as of March and has continued to lose customers as its demise appeared imminent. The bankruptcy of Yellow is likely the largest ever for a U.S. trucking firm.
