Filipinos are officially categorized as Asians and the Philippines is part of Southeast Asia. However, Filipinos were also known as Pacific Islanders for a long time, and some Filipinos still identify as such. The Philippines is geographically located near other Asian countries, such as Taiwan and China, and Filipinos are a mix of different ethnicities, including Spanish, Indonesian, and Chinese. The blending of Western and native cultures in the Philippines has created a unique society that is neither Western nor Asian. Many Filipinos feel closer to the West, especially the United States, and are prouder of their Western upbringing than their Asian identity. However, Filipinos are generally accepting of interracial marriage and multiculturalism due to centuries of migration, diaspora, assimilation, and cultural diversity.
