A Toucan crossing is a type of pedestrian crossing that allows both pedestrians and cyclists to cross at the same time. Cyclists are permitted to ride across Toucan crossings, unlike other types of crossings such as Zebra, Pelican, or Puffin crossings, where cyclists must dismount and push their bikes when using them. Toucan crossings are push-button operated and are light-controlled. Pedestrians and cyclists will see the green signal together, and cyclists should look out and be prepared to stop for pedestrians crossing the track informally as well as at designated points. Cycle tracks on opposite sides of the road may be linked by cycle-only signalled crossings, and cyclists may ride across but must not cross until the green cycle symbol is showing.
