Hooch is a Dogue de Bordeaux, also known as the Bordeaux Mastiff or French Mastiff. This breed is a large and muscular dog with a massive head and a stocky build. They are known for their calm, affectionate, and devoted temperament, as well as their protective instinct towards their family. However, they can also be stubborn and self-confident, so early training and socialization are important. Dogues de Bordeaux are also known for their drooling, and they are not a small breed. According to the AKC breed standard, male dogs should measure 23-1/2 to 27 inches at the withers and weigh at least 110 pounds, while female dogs should measure 23 to 26 inches at the withers and weigh at least 99 pounds.

In the 1989 comedy "Turner & Hooch," Hooch was played by a Dogue de Bordeaux. In the 2021 Disney+ series of the same name, five Dogues de Bordeaux (Arnie, Hammer, Obi, Cyd, and Mya) took on the role of Hooch.
