Smokey is a Bluetick Coonhound. This breed was officially recognized as the state dog of Tennessee in 2019. Smokey has been the live mascot for the University of Tennessee since 1953, representing the university's sports teams. The current Smokey (Smokey X) debuted in 2013, continuing the tradition of the Bluetick Coonhound as the university mascot.
