The gun used to kill Charlie Kirk was a Mauser 98, an imported .30-06 caliber bolt-action rifle with a mounted scope. The rifle is a hunting-type firearm, known for accuracy but slower firing compared to semi-automatic rifles. The shooter fired a single shot from the roof of a building approximately 142 yards away, hitting Kirk in the neck. The rifle was recovered wrapped in a towel in a wooded area near the shooting site, with one spent cartridge in the chamber and three live rounds engraved with various messages.
