A yield sign is a regulatory sign that assigns the right-of-way to traffic in certain intersections. It is shaped like a downward-pointing triangle with a red border and the word "YIELD" written in red. The sign is most commonly used on roadways and other areas where there is vehicle traffic. When drivers approach a yield sign, they must slow down and yield the right-of-way to pedestrians and vehicles that are approaching from another direction. Unlike with stop signs, drivers aren’t required to come to a complete stop at a yield sign and may proceed without stopping -- provided that it is safe to do so. The yield sign is red and white, with red letters.
