Spawn is not part of the DC or Marvel universes, but rather a creation of independent publisher Image Comics. Spawn was created by Todd McFarlane, who is also one of the founders of Image Comics. Spawn is a Hellspawn, and his mission is to protect humanitys souls from both good and evil. Spawns universe is separate from the DC and Marvel universes, and he exists in his own universe as part of Image Comics.
