There are several ongoing armed conflicts around the world. According to the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, there are currently 20 major wars (10,000 or more combat-related deaths in current or past year) and 14 conflicts that have caused at least 1,000 and fewer than 10,000 direct, violent deaths in a current or past calendar year. The types of conflict vary widely, including civil wars, terrorist insurgencies, ethnic conflicts, and drug wars. Some of the countries currently experiencing civil wars include Afghanistan, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Libya, Mali, Somalia, South Sudan, and Syria. Russia and Ukraine are also currently at war. The United States is not involved in any major invasions or direct wars with other nations at the moment, but it is involved in various other military operations and conflicts around the world that are not officially considered wars.
