Stephanie Rice, a triple Olympic gold medalist swimmer, posted a homophobic slur on Twitter in 2010 after Australias rugby union team, the Wallabies, defeated South Africas Springboks. She tweeted "Suck on that ... faggots!". The tweet caused controversy and led to the termination of her sponsorship deal with luxury car manufacturer Jaguar. Rice later apologized and deleted the tweet, stating that she did not mean to cause offense. She also offered a wrenching apology at an emotional press conference, where she dissolved in tears and explained herself for the tweet which saw critics label her a homophobic idiot.
